Built in the late 1770’s as a boarding house for the brave navvies and miners who built the once longest tunnel in Britain…
For centuries, The Tunnel House has been a place for locals and travellers to pause, relax and enjoy a warm welcome — a true classic English country inn.
Whether you’re joining us for a leisurely lunch or supper, pulling up a stool at the bar for a pint, or staying with us in one of our three gorgeous suites, we’re delighted to have you here. There’s always a friendly face waiting to welcome you.
Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Tunnel House sits beside the beautiful Coates portal of the now-closed Sapperton canal tunnel. Tucked away down our own private track, just off the lane between the villages of Tarlton and Coates, we’re only a few miles along the Roman Fosse Way from the market town of Cirencester.
After six years with our gates closed, we’re so pleased to have welcomed you back since June. It’s wonderful to see the pub buzzing again and to be part of the local community once more.
Finding us
Parking at the pub is limited, particularly at weekends, so please park considerately in our new parking bays. There is additional parking at Tarlton Bridge, just before the entrance to our private drive.
We’d love you to enjoy the walk up to the pub — either along our driveway or via one of the many official footpaths that lead through the surrounding countryside. It’s all part of the experience.
Come rain or shine
Our beautifully landscaped garden offers spectacular countryside views and is the perfect spot to while away a sunny afternoon. When the temperature drops, come inside and settle into one of our cosy corners beside a roaring log fire.
From long summer lunches and drinks in the garden to cosy winter evenings by the fire, The Tunnel House is a place to enjoy in every season.
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
